Improving periodic maintenance performance: a grouping and heuristic approach

Purpose This paper proposes a heuristic, data-driven approach to the rapid performance evaluation of periodic maintenance on complex production plants. Through grouping, interval (MI)-based and assessment, potential nonvalue-adding elements can be identified in current structure. The framework reduces management complexity supports decision-making process for further improvement. Design/methodology/approach follows prescriptive research approach. is structured three steps, which are illustrated case study. study utilizes real-life data verify feasibility effectiveness proposed framework. Findings conducted 9,538 pieces equipment from eight offshore oil gas platforms, results show considerable improvement, including up 23% reduction hours. Research limitations/implications problem under limited availability has barely been addressed literature plant level. aims provide quantitative reducing structural help professionals prioritize focus improvement among strategies.
